Consto Bond LT / XT / XXT- Tile Adhesive

Modern tile adhesives like Consto Bond are engineered, ready-mix formulations (often called tile glue) that replace old sand-cement mortars. These polymer‑modified cementitious adhesives provide a very strong bond and flexibility. In practice, they eliminate tile soaking, cut down curing time, and prevent hollow spots or cracks by ensuring full contact under each tile. Consto Bond in particular offers superior adhesion on walls and floors – even in wet or high-traffic areas, securing ceramic, porcelain, vitrified, and natural stone tiles for lasting performance.

Product Overview

Consto Bond LT : Ideal for small-to-medium ceramic tiles (e.g., typical wall tiles). Ready-to-use polymer-modified adhesive suited for interior wall/floor use.

Consto Bond XT / XXT – Large-Format & Stone Tiles : Formulated for larger tiles (>300×300 mm) and small natural stones. Both XT and XXT variants are high-strength adhesives for heavy-duty applications on floors and walls (indoor/outdoor).

Packaging & Coverage : Supplied in 20 kg bags. Each 20 kg bag covers about 50-60 sq. ft. at a 3 mm bed thickness, maximizing material efficiency.

Each Consto Bond adhesive is a polymer-modified cement (often called tile cement adhesive) that blends OPC with selected sands and polymers. This mix yields better bond strength and water resistance than plain cement mortar. These products are engineered (factory-blended) to ensure consistency and avoid site-mixing errors.

Benefits vs. Traditional Mortar

Using a high-quality tile adhesive offers real advantages over a plain cement-sand mix. Unlike cement mortar (which requires tile soaking and can trap voids under tiles), ready-mix adhesive is applied directly and troweled flat. This prevents common issues of traditional tiling - hollow spots, white staining (efflorescence), and weak bonds caused by incomplete coverage. In contrast, Consto Bond’s thin-bed applications ensure full contact: a notched trowel spreads the adhesive evenly over ~1 m², then tiles are pressed into place and straightened. The result is a stronger, durable floor or wall with fewer defects (broken tiles, leaks, bulges) over time

Key Applications :

Consto Bond tile adhesives cover a broad range of applications:

Key Features

  • Ultra-High Bond Strength : Ensures tiles remain firmly fixed over time. Consto Bond adhesives deliver excellent adhesion to substrates, critical for areas exposed to moisture or heavy use.
  • Ready-to-Use Premix : Factory-blended consistency saves labor and reduces waste. Simply add water, mix to a lump-free paste, and apply immediately. No need to soak tiles or pre-wet the wall.
  • Crack-Resistant & Uniform Finish : Smooth, trowelable mortar that cures without excessive shrinkage, minimizing cracks or tile delamination.
  • High Slip Resistance : Formulated to grip tiles firmly, preventing sagging on vertical installations (ideal for wall tile adhesive use).
  • Water-Resistant & Low Shrinkage : Many Consto Bond formulations include additives for moisture tolerance, making them suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and outdoor areas.
  • Versatile Substrate Compatibility : Bonds to a wide range of bases (red brick, fly-ash brick, AAC blocks, concrete, existing tiles, cement board, etc.). Suitable for both new construction and renovations over old tile or uneven surfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

In general, a polymer-modified thinset (cementitious) adhesive is most versatile. Thinset excels for floor tiles, porcelain and wet areas, while a ready-mix mastic (dispersion adhesive) can suffice for small ceramic wall tiles in dry rooms. For large-format or natural stone tiles, use a high-performance C2 or epoxy adhesive. Consto Bond XT/XXT are formulated for large tiles and stones, making them ideal in most cases.

Yes. Modern tile adhesive is superior to plain cement-sand mix. Ready-mix adhesives contain additives that improve workability and bonding strength. They bond tiles instantly without pre-soaking and allow quick adjustments. In contrast, traditional cement requires soaking tiles, is slow to set, and often leaves voids. Overall, tile adhesives yield faster, cleaner installs and stronger, more durable finishes.

Simply mix the dry adhesive with clean water to a creamy consistency. Using a notched trowel, apply a layer onto the substrate (floor or wall) over about 1 m² at a time, then lay tiles into it The notches control thickness and ensure even coverage. Immediately place and slightly twist each tile into position; tiles can be adjusted quickly. After laying, allow proper curing time (typically 24 hours) before grouting. The notched application guarantees full contact, avoiding gaps that cause tiles to break or water to penetrate.

Consto Bond adhesives can fix virtually any tile or stone, ceramic, porcelain, vitrified, granite, marble, etc. They work on floors and walls alike. (For special substrates like hardwood, a primer or specific adhesive is recommended.) In effect, any tile that would traditionally be glued on surfaces can be fixed with the appropriate Consto Bond variant.
