Surface Preparation & Application
Surface Preparation
- The concrete delivered must be of consistent quality with a minimum W/C ratio consistent with the production of a fully compacted slab. A concrete slump in the range of 75 to 110 mm will normally give the best results. The compressive strength must be a minimum of 20 N/mm².
- Air-entrained concrete is not a suitable substrate for the application of dry shake hardeners.
Application Methodology
- Application timing is influenced by conditions affecting concrete placing; remove surface bleed water or allow it to evaporate first.
- Sprinkle Consto Indurate onto the screeded concrete evenly in two stages - first stage 50-60% and second stage 30-40% - without creating creases in the surface.
- Work the first application into the slab immediately, followed by the second stage quantity. Final finishing, closing pores and removing undulations is done by hand or powered trowel.
Finishing & Curing
- For mechanical application with an automatic spreader and laser screed, spreading can start almost immediately after levelling to allow the dry shake to hydrate.
- Compaction with the trowel can begin once the power trowel's weight is supported by the concrete; for manual work, spread once the surface can be stepped on without leaving a print deeper than 3-5 mm.
- Cure Consto Indurate immediately after finishing using clean water.
- Maintain appearance with regular cleaning - rotary brush, mechanical scrubbers, scrubber dryer, high pressure washer, wash and vacuum, using a suitable wax and detergent.
- Light duty: 3.0 – 4.0 kg/m²
- Medium duty: 4.0 – 5.0 kg/m²
- Heavy duty: 5.0 – 6.0 kg/m²
Precautions
Variations in concrete characteristics such as water content and cement may lead to slight colour variations. To ensure optimum colour consistency, the floor-laying operation must be kept as clean and protected from the environment as possible.
Correct timing and trowelling techniques are essential. Low relative humidity can bring efflorescence to the surface, while high relative humidity can cause bleeding, slower curing and hardening, requiring extended finishing. For mechanical application, use an automatic spreader with a laser screed and spread Consto Indurate evenly onto the concrete immediately after screeding, in one application.
After application, do not expose the concrete surface to water and protect it from rain or contaminants.
